This post is short and sweet: we just secured much lower pricing for Pap smears!
While we still perform the pelvic exam and get the Pap smear sample here in the office (it’s included in your membership!), the outside pathologist’s interpretation costs extra. Our Pap smears (for cervical cancer screening) are priced in a stepwise manner as follows:
$23 – Pap smear alone (only for women ages 21-29)
$60 – Pap smear and HPV screen (for all women ages 30-65 and women ages 21-29 with an abnormal pap)
$158 – Pap smear and (for samples w/ a positive HPV screen) genotyping of the HPV strain
For most women, the exam needed is the $60 exam. We’d only charge $158 if that exam came back positive for HPV. Please let us know if you have questions on this front.
Forgive the cliche, but cervical cancer screening saves lives! I tell any woman I care for that nobody in this day and age should have to succumb to cervical cancer. Between the HPV vaccine and routine Pap smear testing, every woman can protect herself against cervical cancer. And now we can do it more affordably.
