Welcome to summer!  Though the summer equinox is officially next month, society’s start to summer is usually considered to be Memorial Day weekend.  As we gear up for the hot months ahead, it is still important to take a few minutes to start thinking about health & safety during your summertime activities.  Our Spring into Health! health fair tomorrow (Saturday, May 13) aims to start this conversation with different local organizations providing everything from free bike helmets to recommendations from the local farmer’s market.  Read on to learn more!

  • Spring into Health! Health Fair: Join us for a health fair featuring our in-house Dietitians from Streetsmart Nutrition and Chard in Charge and a medley of community organizations like the yoga nonprofit Radiant Life Project, the Rosedale Farmer’s Market, Rosedale Development Association, Hen House Pharmacy, active lifestyle advocates Bike/Walk KC and more!  We’ll have delicious samples to taste, programs for kids, giveaways, and door prizes!  The event will be held rain or shine at KCDPC, 2016 W 43rd Ave, KCK from 11-2P on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
  • Yoga: Radiant Life Project will begin their donation-based yoga classes twice a week at KCDPC. Classes, which are open to all skill levels, will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 and Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00.  Reach out to the instructors at radiantlifeproject@gmail.com with any questions.
  • Cooking with Anti-Inflammatory Superfoods: There’s still room in the class with Dianna, of Chard in Charge, on Monday, May 22, 2017 focusing on anti-inflammatory superfoods; see details below and email her at dianna@chardincharge.com to RSVP.
  • Free Blood Pressure Group Class: this class, open to KCDPC members and the community at large, focuses on how to use both medicine and lifestyle changes to bring your blood pressure closer to target and is presented by Hen House Pharmacy.  Class participants will have the opportunity to schedule free one-on-one follow up visits with the pharmacists to assess adequacy of medicines, make lifestyle changes, and more!  Details TBA depending on the responses and availability of interested participants.  Let us know if you’d like to join in the fun!
