Doctor’s Note:

I, for one, am always baffled at the passage of time.  By the time I figure out that I need to be writing October — and not September — when I date things, it’s the last week of the month and I’ve got to re-remember what month it is all over again.  And so here we are: already the second week of November!  Sheesh.  November in America means a few steadfast things: the full-on descent into fall, football, and Thanksgiving.  This month I’ll carve out a section of the blog to talk about eating well as we head into the holiday season — and it’s not as hard as you’d think.

Best,

Allison Edwards, MD

this month’s health tip

As we head into the holiday season, I think it’s important to take a step back and think about how we eat and how it contributes to our health.  This isn’t about diets.  Or feeling guilty about our food choices.  Or dictating that you just need the time to shop for and prepare some sort of grass-fed, detox, organic, paleo, gluten-free, low-sodium, 100% natural, non-GMO cold-pressed meal in order to be healthy.  All of that misses the point.  It’s much simpler.  Read on!

Philanthropy: We’re collecting nonperishables, clothing, & grocery gift certificates for the Feed-A-Family drive hosted annually by Rosedale Development Association. See their list here and bring your donations by the office before Thursday (11/9) to participate!  Additionally, along with the other members of the Midwest DPC Alliance, we’re taking donations to relieve the debt incurred by medical bills through RIP Medical Debt.  Stay tuned and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about this effort.

Benefits season: have you started thinking about your insurance situation for next year? Employers are! They’re starting to put together benefit plans for the upcoming year, and we’re always happy to explain why DPC may be a good fit in the mix.  Reach out to us to discuss more.

Hiring: We are still looking to hire the right RN or LPN to round out our staff — let us know if you’ve found a good fit!

Flu shots: We are offering flu shot for anyone ages 4+ at $20 for members and $30 for non-members.  If you are interested, please call or email to set up a time to come in!

Price increase: We’ll be changing our pricing for medications and memberships on November 15, but if you, your friends, or your loved ones join now, you’re set with our current, lower rates!  Sign up today to lock those in.

Will work for reviews: judge if you must, but we’re looking to increase our presence on review sites like FacebookYelp, and Google.  We’ll even enter you in a drawing to win free care if you participate before 11/15, see below.

REDUCE YOUR HEALTHCARE COSTS

In honor of the upcoming holiday season, we will be raffling away three months of free care in  December!  There are two ways to enter:
1) For current KCDPC members, each positive review on social media you leave will earn you one entry into the drawing; just leave your review, take a screenshot of it, and email it in to us.  (And if you’ve been so kind as to do this previously, we’ll count it for an entry.)
2) For those who haven’t yet enrolled as KCDPC members, enrollment before 11/15/17 will not only lock in lower membership rates but will also get you an entry into the raffle.  From there, go back to #1…

So enroll, spread the word & win free care.  Easy as that!
